Golden Sunshine & Country Charm

Y’all … finding favorite photos from this session to make a blog post had me tearing up. It brought to my attention how long it has been since my girls graduated and started their grown up years. Seeing these photos of my sweet Ava has me reminiscing and missing the days with them.

Dressed in a collection of classic dresses paired with well-loved cowboy boots, Ava brought effortless elegance and country charm to every image. The combination of soft, flowing fabrics and rustic boots created the perfect balance of sophistication and personality, reflecting both her style and spirit.

As we wandered through Carmel Valley, it seemed to offer one picture-perfect backdrop after another. Grasses sparkled beneath the setting sun that highlighted Ava’s soft curls perfectly. The warm sunlight wrapped everything in a beautiful golden glow, creating the dreamy atmosphere that photographers call "golden hour" for a reason.

One of the things I love most about senior portrait sessions is celebrating who each senior is at this moment in their life. Every image tells a story of confidence, growth, and anticipation for the future.

The benefit of living and working here in Monterey county, is the abundance of beautiful locations that we get to shoot in! This session was no exception. Travis’ family ranch was gorgeous and had the best views of the valley!

Photographing Travis in a place where he undoubtedly has countless memories captured from throughout his childhood adds an extra layer of sentiment to this session.

There’s something about a ranch setting that just fits a senior session for a guy—it’s relaxed, a little rugged, and full of natural character. For this session, we leaned into all of that. Wide open spaces, weathered fences, and dusty paths, created the perfect backdrop for photos that feel both timeless and personal.

This season of life is a big one—right on the edge of everything changing. Sessions like this aren’t just about marking the end of high school, but about capturing a sense of place and identity before the next chapter begins. Out here, away from distractions, it’s easier to slow things down and let that come through.

I got to know Ashley over the course of her Senior Year at Salinas High School. She is one of the sweetest and most caring young ladies I have ever met. We would chat at sports games where she was fulfilling the important task of being first aid/athletic trainer through her FAST academy classes. Ashley always had a kind greeting and a genuine smile for everyone, and I am so grateful that I got to know her.

She chose the park in the spring for her Senior Pictures. Tall grass, tiny flowers scattered through the fields, gorgeous sunset, what more could we ask for?

I know I say this a lot, but these are some of my favorite portraits!! You can’t have too many favorites can you? Everything about this evening came together perfectly … well, almost everything. In keeping with Monterey County tradition, it was nice and warm and slightly breezy, but when the sun dipped behind the hills, the temperature went with it! But, it takes more than that to stop a beautiful session in progress. Spring time in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties is so coveted, you won’t find more beautiful landscapes.

Masion’s family gave us free reign to their gorgeous property in the hills of Salinas. We found so many hidden gems and gorgeous spots every time we turned a corner.

We took advantage of the rows and rows of wine grapes, and that golden evening sunshine!
